Architecture is a visual art, and the buildings speak for themselves.
Architecture is not a private affair; even a house must serve a whole family and its friends, and most buildings are used by everybody, people of all walks of life. If a building is to meet the needs of all the people, the architect must look for some common ground of understanding and experience.
A design isn't finished until someone is using it.
Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you anywhere.
In pure architecture the smallest detail should have a meaning or serve a purpose.
Our Philosophy
Two primary tenets of building design are comfort and conservation of energy. Each compliments and dovetails into the other. The careful consideration of thermal comfort along with energy conservation is essential in today’s economic and environmental climates.
Architectural design is a collaborative, decision making, process. Each client, be they either a business owner or a family, bring their own unique ambitions and aspirations to a project. Each and every site offers its own unique set of opportunities which come to light upon investigation of the project’s context. Great architectural intervention is the result of the learning of all of these contributory lessons.
County Galway, and the West Coast of Ireland, is the perfect location for low energy, Passive House building design. The free solar energy gains, available all year round through optimal building orientation, contribute significantly towards the energy efficiency of a building. The detailing of low energy buildings is designed to exclude unwanted air movement which is essential in wind swept regions. The inclusion of sustainable, environmentally friendly building products reduces not only the buildings energy footprint, but also the environmental impact of the building components.
Learned, sustainable, unique design is the ambition of this Design Studio.
